Robert Louis Stevenson

Robert Louis Stevenson was born in
Edinburgh ontoday's date in 1850. He
is known for having written ‘Treasure Is-
land’, ‘Kidnapped’ and ‘The Strange Case
of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’.
2 We are going to listen to 6 of the 12
points which he called his “Pattern for
Living”. We’ll pause for a moment after
each one:
3 “Don’t borrow trouble. Imaginary things
are harder to bear than the actual ones…
4 “Since hate poisons the soul, do not cher-
ish enmities or grudges. Avoid people who
make you unhappy…
5 “Have many interests. If you can’t travel,
read about new places…
6 “Don’t hold post-mortems. Don’t spend
your life brooding over sorrows and mis-
takes. Don’t be one who never gets over
things…
7 “Do what you can for those less fortunate
than yourself…
8 “Keep busy at something. A very busy per-
son never has time to be unhappy…”
9 Let us pray:
Your glory, God our Father,
is seen in people
who are fully alive.
Inspire us to live fully
and discover your kingdom
within us.
Amen.
